Many adults only remember to ride a bike. They abandoned it when they got older. Adults can and should take advantage of bike rides to get some exercise. Older people may want to ride the large tricycle with a basket in the front.

I remember my first bike. It was blue with a bell attached to the handlebar, and when you flipped the tab back and forth with your thumb, you heard a small chime. All the kids in my neighborhood had bikes, of course they were two-speed, stop-and-go bikes, unlike the many different bikes that are available now.

I don't remember any of us being overweight at the time. We ride a bike instead of watching a silly or violent show on TV. In fact, there was no television, no McDonald's, no computer, no Gameboy; the only video games we had were images in our heads. We didn't play many sedentary games during the daylight hours. We ran through the courtyards playing imaginary games. It was fun. In the evening the whole family sat around the table to dine, eat and chat. The meal usually consisted of one meat, two or three vegetables, and a dessert with tea or milk to drink. No one opted for bottled water, oh yeah, there was no bottled water. 

The only time we had hamburgers was on Saturday nights, no fries. Instead of fries we had goulash. During the summer we cooked outdoors on a homemade barbecue pit made out of stone. There were no charcoal, electric, or gas grills, we used wood in the pit. They always invited some of the guys from the neighborhood to have dinner with us on Saturday nights. We ate at a wooden picnic table in the back yard. After dinner we played basketball, horseshoes or some other game. We did a lot of exercise

Maybe if we kept doing that kind of thing, now we wouldn't have so many lazy and overweight people. Get "kids" of all ages together and ride a bike at least once a week. When you're out on horseback, perhaps along the way you'll find yourself in a backyard steakhouse where you can whip up some old-fashioned burgers and toss some horseshoes after dinner.
